When you’re developing a blog, web app or any kind of site that encourages user interaction – the style and appearance of the action buttons can be hugely important. You want the icons that you use to be instantly recognizable and immediately obvious – and you also want them to fit the overall visual aesthetic that you have for the site.
It’s important to get these right – and it can take a huge amount of time, patience and energy if you’re designing them from scratch. A badly designed (or badly chosen) icon can cause users of your web app to struggle to interact with it. If this happens often, or if the user is impatient, you may find that they’re more likely to give up and never return. The icons you use may appear small, but they can have an extraordinarily large impact on the success or failure of your app.
Luckily, there are some extremely talented designers who have done the hard work for you – and have kindly released their icon sets for free. We’ve brought together a collection of some extremely beautiful, detailed and stylish icon sets that can help to make your next project more user friendly. Good luck with using them, and make sure to check the licenses for each to ensure that you can use them in commercial projects, or if you need to attribute the designer.
